An Original World War Two 'Dirty Dozen' British Army Watch Made by Buren with Commando Hands. This is an original British Army 'WWW' (Wrist Watch Waterproof) service watch by the Swiss manufacturer, Buren made in in circa 1943. The watch has a 15 jewel Swiss movement and is one of the so-called, 'Dirty Dozen' of contracted manufacturers. The watch has a nickle silver case with a contract screw case-back. The black dial is marked with the British Army War Department Broad Arrow and 'Buren Brand Prix'.The dial has the 1-12 hours marked with a 60-second markings and luminous hour markings. The watch has the original Commando Hands which are more rugged and broader than standard hands. These were designed to allow wearer a 'quick glance' in difficult wartime conditions. The screw back of the watch is marked on both sides with the British Army Broad Arrow then:WWW H9822339985The anti-magnetic plate inside is present and is in good condition. The watch is in good working order with the dial and both hands being in good condition. As you can see in the photos, the nickle silver coating has rubbed off from the majority of the front of the watch although this could be reapplied if wished. However, I prefer the original, used appearance. The watch includes an original style strap although I am not sure if this is original to the watch or a later addition. The strap came with with watch and I have left it on.
Overall this is a lovely, original watch in good working order. Thanks and kind regards
