This is a vintage c. late 1940's/early-1950's stainless steel Benrus Sky Chief. It has a shell cordovan strap a stainless steel tang buckle, and a domed acrylic crystal. It has rectangular chronograph pushbuttons, and there is a solid snap-on case back with a coded serial number, inside of which is anti-magnetic, engine-turned, and stamped with "BENRUS WATCH CO. INC. – SWISS – STAINLESS STEEL." The 35mm diameter solid three-body case, downturned lugs, and angled bezel are polished. The original black dial has the original syringe hands with radium lume inserts, a needle center sweep chronograph hand, applied steel Arabic numeral hour indexes, and an outer gilt minute/seconds scale with Arabic numerals every five minutes. There are three recessed subsidiary dials, including a running seconds register at 9 o'clock, a 12-hour totalizer at 6 o'clock, and there is a 30-minute sub dial at 3 o'clock. The 13.8mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This mechanical manual winding Benrus Sky Chief has a Valjoux 72 column wheel chronograph movement that's rhodium-plated. It's constructed with 17 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight- line lever escapement. It includes an antimagnetic monometallic balance, and a self-compensating blued Breguet balance spring. The Benrus Sky Chief was officially issued to many commercial pilots from the post-war 1940’s to the 1960’s.
