American Kobold Watch Company was founded in 1998 by Michael Kobold in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Michael Kobold was fond of mechanical watches from 12 years old. Fundamentals of Kobold Watch Company was incorporated 19 years of Michael when he was still a student at Pittsburgh Carnegie Mellon University. It started as a hobby with a 4-page web site on the Internet and start-up capital $ 5,000. After graduation, Michael Kobold seriously engaged in the watch business  and hired first employees. They were developing  polar watches which will be reliable, accurate and rugged enough to wear them in the most extreme conditions.In the early wrist watches of the Kobold the company  used component parts of Switzerland and Germany. But over time, watch company opens its production lines and plans in 2015 to establish 100% American manufacture. Models of company Kobold is preferred by many professional athletes, actors and musicians. Kobold watches have adopted polar, test pilots, astronauts, divers. All times registered by Kobold watches are issued for members of royal families, famous athletes and show business. Kobold watches prefer travelers often find themselves in extreme conditions. One of them - British explorer Ranulf Fiennes (Ranulph Fiennes), which entered the Guinness Book of Records as the person who made the longest polar journey. He prefers  watch brand Kobold since 1999. Kobold watches are in  preference of such famous people as a Hollywood actor James Gandolfini known for playing the Sopranos from the series "The Sopranos." About the Sir Ernest Shackleton The Sir Ernest Shackleton Edition pays tribute to one of the greatest polar explorers of all times. The richness of the Shackleton's color palette complements its refined, anachronistic design queues. A hand wound caliber with a modification developed by Master Watchmaker Gerd-R. Lang is encased in a classic stainless steel case. A Cool blue dial with brushed surface finish, polished silver luminous hands, Alligator strap and the polished case all combine to lend the Shackleton a warm, and luxurious aura.  Production limited to 25 watches per year. Case Made in USA.This is one of the few original limited edition Kobold Sir Ernest Shackleton's. This is not the current Shackleton Automatic being offered by Kobold for $5350. This watch with the Arctic Blue dial feature a Chronoswiss center seconds modified ETA 6497 manual movement and is quite a rare watch. This high quality movement is nicely decorated and was regulated in five positions. Gerd R. Lang, the founder of Chronoswiss, helped Michael Kobold start his company and collaborated with him on this watch. The watch is 43mm in diameter and comes on a  Kobold strap looks grat from the front and some wear on the inside of the strap but lots of life left shown in these pictures. The watch is in very nice near mint condition, looks brand new. No box or papers. Kobold Sir Earnest Shackleton. This limited edition of only 350 watches, has the very desirable dark blue dial.
