With the collapse of the Berlin wall, German watchmaking returned to the forefront of the industry with Glashutte at the head of the pack creating mechanical masterpieces. Glashutte watches have a distinct and elegant look. The Glashutte designers have mastered the art of fitting several important complications into one dial while not making it appear too cluttered. Glashutte, unlike several of their better know Swiss competitors, manufacturers all of their movements in house. The featured watch is Glashutte Original Senator Diary in Stainless Steel case measuring 42mm of diameter. Automatic Wind Movement Fixed Bezel, The Black dial with Index hours markers and Silver hands hours and seconds markers, Minutes markers around ourter of the rim, Large Double window Date at 3 o'clock position, Diary Alarm window at 10 o'clock position. Time indicator for the Alarm is an elongated window located at the 6 o'clock position. Days of the Month to set the Alarm sub-dial at 9 o'clock position, plus an On/Off Alarm indicator. Functions: Date, Hours, Minutes, Seconds, Date, Month Alarm. Scratch resistant sapphire crystal. Transparent caseback, It comes in Black Leather strap wit Deployment clasp. Water Resistant 50atm. Then you will think that most watch complication have always been invented, it is refreshing to find a brand new complication.--- The Senator Diary has an alarm that can be set up to a month in advance. Typically, mechanical alarm watches only allow you to set the time of day for the alarm to ring, with a setting to switch the alarm on or off. The Senator Diary watch provides the ability to schedule a mechanical ring for reminders over greater periods of time. And while “Diary” may be a bit confusing, it is a more elegant title than “luxury watch with mechanical alarm that can be set up to one month in advance.” Such a complication has never been designed and produced before, which provides Glashütte Original the distinction of “world’s first.” Given the complex mechanism in the watch, the dial is simple and straightforward in execution. Glashütte Original designers wished for the one-month alarm to be a function that was uncomplicated to use, and not merely an added function that might be frustrating to operate. The timepiece starts with a 31-day subdial that resembles a date indicator. A quick glance at the panorama big date window on the right of the case opposite the subdial helps alleviate confusion as to what the date indicator is used for. A small alarm function indicator window in the subdial further reminds the watch owner what the selector is for. Using the second crown on the case, you are able to select the time of day for the alarm to ring in the thin window revealing a time disc at the bottom of the case. There you can also choose the date for the alarm to go off. Ensure that the alarm is set to “on” when a small image of a bell appears in the indicator window, and the alarm is primed. The alarm also uses a separate winding function so that it does not draw excessive power from the movement—that would undermine the 55 hours of power reserve in the calibre.Personal Note--Glashutte Original makes one of the finest watches in the world today.
