You’re bidding for a very special watch, a ONE OFF Maserati Karif, made by Girard Perregaux in 1990.What’s the story behind this timepiece? In 1981 Maserati introduced his new GT, the Biturbo. Over the years very different merchandising was offered, among them a line of watches. In 1988 Maserati introduced the ultimate Biturbo model, the Karif, with a planned run of only 250 units, of which only 223 were finally made.To celebrate this feature on 1993 (last year of Karif production) Maserati presented to the owners of each car an special wristwatch with the total run number engraved on the movement weight (see picture).Why this one is so special, what I call a ONE-OFF? Because this was the first prototype, presented with a complete bracelet and a butterfly deploy from GP. All the regular production was served with a leather band and a buckle. I’m the owner from new, presented to me in 1993 (another vey long story…).The base of this watch is the modified case of a Girard Perregaux GP7000, and with a Valjoux 7751 movement, resulting in a Triple Calendar Chronograph and 24 Hour Totaliser, so 7 hans in total. The month and day of the calendar are in Italian… of course!! ;-)The 7751 is considerable more complex than the 7750, with full calendar, centrally mounted hand for the date, windows for both the day of the week and the month, plus a full chronograph, and a 24 hours totalizer with a black hand.It’s difficult to see in the pictures, but the watch is bi-color: stainless steel and rose gold plated. It is in excellent condition throughout and complete, gently used and serviced in 2011. The sapphire glasses are perfect, the polished and brushed steel case and bracelet are in outstanding condition with slight signs of wear. The only issue is the box: it’s self-destructing, besides it has been always in a dry place. I did my best to conserve it, but it’s better not to manipulate it very much. The international warranty card is not signed, as corresponds to this prototype.
