Extreme rarity: Lip Souveraine watch, R 25 in house movement, manufactured approximately 1940 to 1942, engraving Normandy landing. Museum piece !!!   This watch Lip Souveraine has a mechanism in house R 25 with 17 rubies and peripheric second manufactured approximately between 1940 and 1942 (when founder Lip with staff moved to Issoudun in unoccupied France and continued to produce watches for French Free Forces ).   The watch has a diameter of 34 mm and the distance between the loops 18 mm, and the movement has a diameter of 25.1 mm and a height of 4.1 mm. The balance with screws for compensation and shock absorbers Incabloc runs 18,000 alternations per hour, and the mainspring, full charged, ensures a power reserve of 36 hours. The back cover, made from steel is embossed with Lip logo (a crowned eagle holding in its claws two Doric columns) and the serial No. 55856 outside. Inside the back cover is stamped with the serial No. 253 1362 and "LIP" marked.   The case is marked by its age but the glass and the dial are in very good condition. What makes this watch so special is the engraving on the back cover: "A notre camarade R. Dumenoir, S.M.F., 27-12-1943" / To our comrade R. Dumenoir, S.M.F., 27-12-1943. This watch is a true museum piece, according to the inscription he belonged to a fallen soldier during the landing in Normandy. Raymond Ernest Eugène Dumenoir, born in December 27, 1911 in Paris, was a great hero, member of the famous French Commando Kieffer, fallen on the beaches of Normandy, during Allied invasion.Raymond Dumenoir was enlisted in the Free French Forces in August 1940 as a Marine, and have registration number L30 128 - 736 FN40. He died on June 6, 1944, D-Day, the day of landing on the beaches of Normandy. On October 21, 1944, he was posthumously awarded with the Military Medal (Médaille militaire). Dedicated sub-officer, was very loved by his commanders and also by his comrades. All the datas are matching, and the engravin is authentic, handmade in the style of the 40s. Probably the clock was a gift from companions of Raymond Dumenoir, for his anniversary.   According to experts from the National Museum of Marine Lorient, most likely, the soldier was wearing the watch on the day of the Normandy Landings.
