Up for sale is an extremely rare American 8 day Chronometer made by B.W. Schmidt in Redfield, South Dakota. Description: B.W. Schmidt, Redfield, South Dakota, table or shelf chronometer, the glazed, rectilinear mahogany case with removable top panel and polished ball feet containing an nickel silver, jeweled 8 day reverse fusee timepiece with spring detent escapement, invar balance with helical hairspring and power reserve indication, back plate with exposed wheel work for wind indicator, blued steel clicks and ratchet for mainspring setup, and engraved nameplate, also with plate engraved "Chronometer" mounted to back of escapement platform, Arabic numeral, single sunk white plastic dial engraved "Made by B.W. Schmidt No. 2 Redfield, S.D. Invar Balance Elinvar Bal. Spring", blued steel Breguet style hands, and with its original, signed, unidirectional winding key, 1932.Condition Report: Case good, original finish with crazing, minor dings, scrapes and scuffs, front with tight split, glasses good, dial and hands very good, movement very good, runs well, 6 1/2"d x 12 1/8"w x 11 1/2"h.The quality of this movement is unbelievable. We also have letters from Mr. Schmidt to Mr. Bowmen, of Bowmen Technical school, and from Bowmen to Schmidt.
