Brief history of the WWW Dirty Dozen watches-During WWII the Ministry of Defence needed more watches so designed a set of specifications for a new type of wristwatch to replace the ageing A.T.P watches, all the watches have the same features, black dial, sub-seconds counter, high jewel count movements, luminous dial & hands & waterproof, the new specification was referred to as WWW which stands for Watch Wristlet Waterproof. Twelve Swiss watch companies secretly took on the contract, they were Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, Jaeger Le-Coultre, Lemania, Longines, IWC, Omega, Record, Timor and Vertex. When completed the watches were secretly flown out of neutral Switzerland by the RAF on special low flying missions. These twelve watches are now referred to by military watch collectors as the “Dirty Dozen”
Dirty Dozen watches were issued to all branches of the MOD Army Navy & RAF, SF & others.
As you would expect with a military watch they are designed purely for function, very robust with a solid case, good quality accurate Swiss 15 jewelled movement, fixed strap bars anti-magnetic & a thick tough plexi.
I have time-checked it over 26 hours and it is still not one minute out.
The watch runs, winds and the hands set okay.  The dial is black(with ageing), signed Record,  and Swiss Made. The case measures 35mm across, this excludes the crown. 38mm including the crown. The back bares all the WWW details. L26212 and 544059. Also stamped the the inside of the case is the military crow's foot.  These numbers are indicative of batch number and issue number..The movement is Cal 022k. Fitted with 15 Jewels.   The movt. is signed Swiss Made and Record to the ratchet winding wheel.  The watch is fitted with a brand new green military fabric strap. I have not cleaned or polished the watch.  The plating has worn thin in places on the case. There is a small piece of lume missing on the hour hand. The watch shows general marking and ageing, due to use. But is in good vintage condition, and not messed around with. Please take the time to view photos to confirm cosmetic condition.  I can only send to addresses that Royal Mail can track to.   No P.O. BOXES,  Sorry. No transactions outside of Ebay.     I am having a much needed clear out of my collection.             Please take the time to view my other items.Thank you for looking.
