This auction is for a very rare G Boley 8mm watchmaker lathe in the WW format. It includes the manufacturers original base unit with integral switching to the attached single phase motor. It was originally purchased by a specialist factory but actually had little use as can be seen from the pictures - there is little or no damage to the bed (often a casualty of heavy use). It was probably made during the second half of the 20th century. Points to note are:

- Long bed (40 cm) in very good condition - looks little used.
- Production headstock in good working order - this has a lever operated collet opener (this is the only one I have ever seen).
- Pump action drilling tailstock which accepts 8mm collets - an extreemly useful and versatile capability.
- 18 nice collets (mostly marked G Boley) - all checked for fit.
- 6 jaw chuck - which is well used as can be seen in the pictures but still very useable.
- the graver rest is sitting on an improvised spacer rather than a Boley saddle. This is not a problem until you want to add a cross slide when the saddle would be needed (but may be available with the cross slide).
- the motor is old and should be checked out by a qualified electrician before use, however it has been tested and is working.
- it looks as though there may be a pulley countershaft missing from the motor mount - this would have provided a limited speed change capability.
Nowadays you would add a low cost electronic speed control if this is needed. It the original motor strap has clearly been replaced at some time.Overall the lathe finish is in very good condition, the paintwork has been refreshed but the chrome is untarnished and has no flaking. This is a very nice, high quality watchmaker lathe from a well respected German manufacturer which could be used in a precision clock, model or watch workshop. Alternatively its condition and configuration may make it a significant acquisition for a collector of similar tools. In either case the investment is likely to appreciate as these lathes continue to rise in price on a yearly basis.
