Linde Werdelin has made quite the splash in the sports watch market, with big, bold, avant-garde designs produced in limited runs for quite a few years now. The brand continues to refine its interpretation of the perfect bold sports watch, arriving at the Hard Black III, released in 2014 with a $7,100 retail on the steel bracelet.The Hard Black III features a bold 44mm DLC coated stainless steel case that wears surprisingly slim due to the ergonomic curved design of the case and bracelet that securely hugs the wrist, keeping the bold case design as the showcase but without adding bulk. The SS case is surprisingly light, making the Hard Black III feel like a true sports watch, and with 300m of water resistance and a unidirectional lumed diving bezel, the Hard Black can perform as well as it looks. The Diamond Like Carbon coating is the toughest out there and much more durable than standard PVD coatings, keeping the watch extremely scratch resistant. The case design is also compatible with Linde Werdelin's Rock and Reef diving and climbing/skiing add-on computers. The watch we have here is a red version of the Hard Black III GMT, which adds a second time zone complication. It also comes on the optional DLC coated stainless steel bracelet which is seldom seen on these watches. The bracelet is very unique with tapered links and an almost reptilian appearance. LW's assortment of quick change straps are all compatible with the Hard Black III should one want to change up the look. This watch was produced in a limited run of 66 pieces and comes complete with its original boxes, warranty card, and USB stick manual. The watch is in excellent condition and shows only the slightest signs of wear to the hardened DLC coating. The bracelet is sized for a 7.25" wrist currently, but links are included to fit close to an 8" wrist. The ETA-based movement inside is keeping excellent time with all functions working as they should.
