For example, the Jaeger Le-Coultre Reverso (Reverso), the Cartier Tank (Tank) and the Rolex Submariner (Submariner). Throughout its 200-year history, Girard-Perregaux has produced several magnificent timepieces and, although relatively young at just over 40 years old, the Girard-Perregaux Laureato is an iconic watch. In 1975, in a period of disruptive changes for watchmakers, Girard-Perregaux presented a sporty and original model equipped with an octagonal polished bezel and an integrated bracelet. Steel had become a serious option for luxury sport watches with many important brands presenting sporty yet elegant timepieces. Moreover, the arrival of quartz was threatening Swiss watchmakers and most of them began developing their own quartz movements. This was also the case of Girard-Perregaux, which equipped the Laureato with an in-house quartz movement oscillating at a frequency of 32,768 Hz. The dial was marked with "Quartz Chronometer" having passed a quality benchmark for precision. The watch was also part of the emerging trend for two-toned watches mixing steel and gold. A polished octagonal bezel was embedded in a satin-brushed case with integrated bracelet. Its name – Laureato – was suggested by Girard-Perregaux’s Italian distributor at the time and inspired by the classic movie, The Graduate (Il Laureato in Italian). A slim case, octagonal bezel and integrated bracelet alternating polished and satin finishes, framing a black toned dial adorned with a ‘Clou de Paris’. Girard-Perregaux was not only an important early innovator in quartz technology, it was also actually the very first company to create a movement (built around a Motorola chip) that had a quartz crystal vibrating at 32,768 Hz, which ultimately became the industry standard. The movement used in the original Laureato was the caliber 705. This was a high quality, seven-jewel movement, 25.6 mm in diameter, and you can easily identify the battery bridge for the motor and gear train, and the dull grey cylinder that contains the quartz timing package. As was often the case with Girard-Perregaux accuracy was a major goal, the the first Laureato proudly said “Quartz Chronometer” on the dial. The Laureato is characteristic of the sporty steel watches of the 1970’s with its octagonal bezel and integrated bracelet. It has earned a place in horological history. Together with the Rolex Oyster Quartz, the IWC Ingenieur SL Quartz, the Eterna Royal Quartz, the Laureato it's one of the most sought and collectible vintage Quartz watches. Please ask any questions before bidding and/or buying. 100% GENUINE OR YOUR MONEY BACK PICTURES ARE PART OF THE DESCRIPTION AND ARE FROM THE ACTUAL ITEM.No discounts will be given for observations that you make when you get the item. If you want more pictures please let me know and I will happily provide them. We do our best to give a good description and condition of the item. We do not accept returns or exchanges, however, we will work on a case by case basis if you have any issues or concerns. You have to communicate any concerns within 3 business days of item delivery.
