Jacques Gevril was born in La Chaux-de-Fonds, where he began to earn his reputation as a renowned master of technical watchmaking. In the beginning of his career, he helped to restore and repair various timepieces. He branched out and began creating his own unique watches in 1743, the year he created his first Chronometer. Gevril’s work continued in 1744, when he built his first Repetition Dial. He cemented his legacy as a great watchmaker in 1758, when he became the first exporter of Swiss timepieces, which was a result of a special request from the King of Spain to craft the royal’s personal timepiece. The Gevril legacy of fine and luxurious watches continued beyond the life of Jacques Gevril, thanks in large part to his children. In 1784, Jacques’ son, Moyse Gevril, became a master of creating fine timepieces. As a result, the Gevril business continued to expand, specifically through the integration of enameling and dial creation into the manufacturing of their watches.
