Description
With rose, yellow and greenish tints, this pocket watch case is a stunner! A star-type center decoration is used to house a diamond. The diamond is appx. 5 milliliters across and protrudes at least 1 milliliter above the 'star' setting. It could be assumed that the diamond was meant to represent the sun. Other symbols appear as angel wings (to me, at least), grape leaves and flowerlets. Similar engraving/application of symbols appear on the other side...with a large, blank (no initials) shield or cartouche in the center. According to an Elgin site on the web this is a watch from 1902, serial number 9387446, size 16s, with 17 jewels, model 6 and class 33. There is a gift inscription on one of the inside covers: In Remembrance from Holy Trinity Congregation Dayton, Ohio July, 1902. This date coincides with the date of the movement. The original round paper label for the case company is still affixed inside the case. The Delaware Case Company "This is to certify that the accompanying case No. (number written in with ink) 5191605 is a genuine gold filled case made of two plates of solid gold overlaying a plate of composition metal and is guaranteed to wear for a period of twenty years. DELAWARE WATCH CASE CO."Please contact me with any questions. Thanks for looking!
