This auction is for a Boley & Leinen Reform - 8mm watchmakers lathe with lots of accessories. This lathe was produced in Germany in the middle of the 20th century and is regarded by many as one of the best watchmaker lathe of its era. This example is in good working condition and comes in a contemporary box which also holds a good range of collets and a comprehensive selection of other accessories.As can be seen from the pictures the lathe is in very good condition with very little tarnish or rust visible. It looks little used and has been well cared for during its life. Included with the lathe are:34 collets, 30 of which are marked Leinen 3 others Boley and 1 unnamedGraver restIndexed headstock - with no discernible play or end floatTwo tailstocks - for use as turnsCross slide, tool-post and tool bitsWax chucksFiling rest(s)Faceplate (missing centring runner)Sliding tailstock drilling runner with drawbar and brass colletsOffset runner, cone plates, centring runner and drilling runner for (re)pivoting workSafety carriersSaw tableStep chucks5mm brass chucks for fine workWood-screw chuck (tip broken)Grindstone on arbourSlitting saw on arbour----- and other items as can be seen in the pictures.Two important points for bidders to note - 1) The cross slide is set up for users who work with the headstock on the right hand side. This orientation can be changed fairly easily by drilling and tapping a hole in the cross slide longitudinal bed. This to facilitate reversing the position of the screw feed. A factory made pilot hole already exists for this modification. 2) These lathes were supplied without a mounting foot - feet to fit these lathes can be found on eBay (new and old) or some users prefer to use an integrated foot/motor mount e.g. Flume or Borel - see my other auctions for a Flume 53 base/motor.If you are involved in the repair or restoration of old watches and clocks you will be aware that the precision of a watchmakers lathe is essential for some operations. These lathes are now both an necessary tool and a very wise investment. The prices are rising steadily so now may be the time to acquire a quality lathe!
