Vintage Bucherer Archimedes Super Compressor Diver Tropical Dial

The Super Compressor was an innovative case design first developed by case manufacturer EPSA in the late 1950s. It was a novel concept that became more watertight the deeper the watch went. The patented design used the pressure of the water to compress (ayy!) the caseback further to create a tighter seal with the o-ringed case.
The design of the Super Compressor is just as novel as its tech, and the twin crowns have been often imitated, even today. The signature diver's helmet logo, twin crowns with hashes, and the internal rotating bezel are all things that have become tightly associated with the Super Compressor style.
EPSA manufactured these cases for numerous watch companies that have turned into some very collectible watches.
What we have here is a Bucherer Archimedes with a killer tropical dial. Bucherer was founded in 1888 (as evidenced on the caseback of this watch) as a jeweler in Switzerland. The company also manufactured its own watches as it grew into one of the largest jewelry and watch retailers in Europe. That watch manufacturing arm was established as its own company in 2001, and has borne the Carl F. Bucherer name since. The Archimedes was the company's take on the Super Compressor style diving watch.This Archimedes has a fantastic tropical dial that has turned to a golden and purple color. The dial is incredibly unique and is very dynamic under different lighting.
Take a look at our photos and description below. Case: 36mm EPSA super compressor diver case in excellent vintage condition. The case shows some wear commensurate with age but no major dings/dents. Caseback is signed with the signature EPSA diving helmet inside, and a Bucherer engraving on the rear.Bezel: Original internal bezel operated by the top crown. The bezel has faded and matches the dial. The bezel is very slightly loose internally but still functions as it should. Dial and hands: Original dial and hand set. Dial is a very unique faded tropical gold and purple. Some of the lume plots are not fully intact as shown. Hands are polished steel in good condition with matching tritium.Crystal: Domed acrylic crystal in good vintage condition with minor surface scratching. There are no gouges, chips, or cracks in the crystal.Movement: Bucherer signed ETA automatic movement in good working condition. The watch winds, sets, and runs as it should.
