This is a vintage 1968 stainless steel Tudor Submariner 7016/0. It has the original Rolex USA stretch rivet bracelet (stamped from 1968), and the original screw-down Rolex Triplock winding crown protected by the Crown Guard. The 40mm diameter solid three-body case, downturned lugs, and bracelet have had a very small amount of polishing. It has the "Ghost" insert on the bi-directional rotating bezel with the decompression times, and a screwed-down solid case back, inside of which is stamped "I 68". The matte black dial has the early Rose logo, with appropriately aged luminous round, triangular and baton index hour markers, luminous steel skeleton hands, a centered sweep second hand, and an outer minute/seconds track. It's water resistant to 200 meters/660 feet, and the 622XXX serial number is from 1968. Included is the leather cover to avoid reflection off the crystal, as this watch was worn in combat. The 12mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The mechanical automatic self-winding Rolex caliber 2483 movement is rhodium-plated. It's constructed with 25 jewels, a shock absorber mechanism, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance, and a self-compensating flat balance spring. The original owner of this watch, a U.S. seaman, purchased it in January of 1969 at a Naval ship store at the port of San Francisco during the Vietnam War. He wore this watch during combat, utilizing the leather cover, which protected the watch and aided in avoiding reflected light during night missions.
