Exquisite 18 carat gold pocket watch of the major watch manufacturer Golay Fils & Stahl from Geneva with 5 minute Repeater, Switzerland around 1900 in an excellent, fully functional condition.
Smooth 18kt gold case with 18k hallmark on all covers. Double cover. Back with elaborately engraved monogram. Dust cover with factory mark. Slider to trigger the repetition at the 3. The case is very well preserved, undamaged.
Mint-Enameld dial with Arabic numerals and watchmakers brand. The dial is undamaged. Three blued hands. Small seconds.
The glass is in very good condition.
Fine, complicated, nickel plated movement of finest quality. Asymmetric lever escapement with visible stones and balance weight. Adjustable lever stones. Swan neck fine adjustment. A bimetallic balance wheel weights with screwed weights and blued spring. Large visible ruby stones. Keyless winding. Repetition with two hammers on two springs. Polished screws. The clean movement is working properly.Diameter of the watch 48mm, weight 83g.The watch is in perfect and fully functional condition.Golay Fils & Stahl Founded in 1837 by the watch and clock maker Golay-Leresche at 31, quai des Bergues in Geneva, the family run company specialized in the production of high quality watches for which they obtained various medals and awards. They quickly became an important asset to Geneva's economy and were recognizable amongst the best watch manufacturers of Switzerland, both nationally and internationally.
Their products comprised highly complicated watches such as an 18K gold openface minute repeating perpetual calendar watch with phases of the moon, sunrise, sunset and equation of time, made circa 1910 for the Maharaja of Patiala.
To honour the company and their fine watches, masterpieces signed Golay Fils & Stahl from an important private collection were exhibited in the Musée de l'Horlogerie et de l' lerie in Geneva from 26 May 2000 to 16 January 2001 "Les Heures Précieuses, Golay Fils & Stahl, Genève 1837 - 1940".
In the period from 1860 until 1930 there were two stores, the original in Geneva and one in Paris. From 1896, King Carol I of Romania was a loyal customer and the firm became jeweler the Royal Family of Romania.
