Running 18S Waltham, Boston, Mass key wind/key set Civil War William Ellery Pocket Watch made in 1863 according to factory records of serial numbers (50,9xx). Key is included. Housed in a C E Hale Silver Hunter Case. There are no case marks that would indicate another movement was ever housed in this case. Note that Charles Everet Hale was a well known pocket watch case maker in the late 1850s on. He made many cases for Howard movements. Beautifully engraved on the front cover is a well-done American eagle that is totally reflective of the patriotic fervor of the mid Civil War period. Movement has 7 jewels and is good running order. I serviced the watch about 30 years ago when I was doing watch repairs. Has been in my own personal collection since then. A few very minor small "dings" to cover.....does not at all detract. The factory records show that the William Ellery model was especially designed for military men during the Civil War era and beyond. Dial is perfect.....I can see no hairlines or chips. Also perfect is the crystal. Front cover is serviced by a strong lifter spring and readily opens when the cover release is depressed. Movement screws have their original bright fire blue. An exceptionally nice watch that would enhance any American Civil War collection. I have owned and enjoyed it for many years but it's now time to let someone else do the same.
