A beautiful and elegant mid 19th century 18K gold pocket watch of the French origin with an engraved inner case back reading 'Echappement Cylindre Quatre Trous Rubis Aiguilles'.
'Echappement Cylindre Quatre Trous Rubis Aiguilles' is a French description for the movement and translates to 'Cylinder Escapement 4 holes jewels movement with hand markers'. The cylinder escapement was invented by Thomas Tompion in 1695, later improved by George Graham and is still in use today. Dated circa 1850/1860s, this beautiful pocket watch has a nice clean Swiss cylinder escapement movement which is in working order. It also has a fine detailed guilloche silver dial which is in very good condition with very minor marks/wear as well as a little but very unnoticeable dent in the dial (please see photos). Overall, the case of the watch opens/closes as should and is in great condition with no major damage. In addition, the cartouche on the case is also vacant and can be engraved depending on preference. To conclude a fine continental piece with a clean ticking Swiss movement, a silver guilloche dial finished in a beautiful engine turned 18K gold case. Please do not hesitate to get in touch should you have any further questions. Many thanks for looking.
