I am please to offer from my private collection this MUSEUM solid silver case French Verge Fusee Doctors Skull Memento Mori pocket watch c1819. MUSEUM condition! The watch has a top grade fire gild full plate verge fusee movement with hand pierced balance cock.A very unusual movement with excentric pinions. Unusual silver dial ,with excentric low position sub dial,decorated with sculls and Caduceus(the medicine symbol) On the skull head is hand engraved Latin Mottos "Memento Mori" and "Tempus Fugit" plus the year 1819.
The watch is 40mm in diameter,60mm high. The watch is is a link to the tradition of the memento mori - an object designed to remind us that life is brief and that we should seize the moment while we are here. The watch gild silver case is made in form of a gsmiling Skull,which was extremely popular during Georgian and Victorian era.
