The AJT Watch Company Watch Condition Grading ScaleCustomer satisfaction is the cornerstone of any good business.  In an effort to differentiate AJT Watch Company from other on line retailers we are publishing our and will be including our with all watches received and listed on the AJT Watch Company website after Jan 1, 2016.  This scale will give our customers a better understanding of the condition of each component of the watch so there are no surprises when it is received.  Unlike other sellers, we will never say something is in mint condition if it is not.The combination of the grading scale and including the inspection reports will give our customers insight that no other retailer of pre-owned watches gives.  Buyers will know more about their pre-owned watch if it is purchased from us.  It also helps our customers evaluate a watch they are considering selling by making sure everyone is on the same page when talking about its condition.  This creates a level of trust and understanding you can’t get elsewhere.  We are proud of the quality of our product and customer satisfaction is paramount in the success of our business. Condition 1 (Mint): ·         Perfect with no signs of wear ·         Accompanied by all of its original boxes and paperwork ·         A condition "1" movement keeps time within 30 seconds a day when fully wound (5 seconds for a quartz movement).  All functions work properly.  Movement has been serviced within the previous 5 years or is less than 5 years old. ·         Note:  We don’t consider any pre-owned watch that has been out of the box and worn for anything other than being “tried on” to be entirely a condition “1”.  If you see a watch listed as a “1” on our site it is absolutely perfect.  There will, however, be individual components that are a condition “1”.  Crystals, hands and dials are typically in perfect condition with no evidence of wear.   Condition 2 (Excellent): ·         Shows very light signs of wear. ·         Faint scratches on the case, bezel, bracelet or buckle are visible under low power magnification.  They MAY be visible to the naked eye.  ·         Strap can show light use, it may be bent or lightly creased, not stained, holes slightly elongated. ·         Bracelet may be resized. ·         A condition "2" movement keeps time within 30 seconds a day when fully wound (5 seconds for a quartz movement).  All functions work properly.  Movement has not been serviced within the previous 5 years or it is unknown when the last service has been completed. ·         Note:  We perform light polishing and brushing of cases and bracelets with the intent to get them to a condition of “2”, if possible.   Photos Available on the AJT Watch Company website.   Condition 3 (Good): ·         Shows what might be considered normal wear by someone who wore the watch regularly. ·         Scratches on the case, bezel, bracelet or buckle are visible to the naked eye. ·         Nicks and dings may be present but the watch still looks nice. ·         A few moderate depth scratches may be present.  These scratches won’t completely come out but should end up being a condition “2” after light polishing or brushing. ·         Straps show wear but are still usable.  Holes elongated, strap bent or creased. ·         Bracelet may be resized. ·         A condition "3" movement keeps time within 60 seconds a day when fully wound (30 seconds for a quartz movement).  All functions work properly.  Movement has not been serviced within the previous 5 years or it is unknown when the last service has been completed. It is not broken but regulation or service would make it keep better time.   Photos Available on the AJT Watch Company website.   Condition 4 (Fair): ·         Shows what would be considered heavy wear by someone who wore the watch regularly and often knocked and scratched it. ·         Scratches on the case, bezel, bracelet or buckle are deep are easily visible to the naked eye. ·         Many nicks and dings are present. ·         Deep scratches are present.  These scratches won’t come out but should end up being a condition “3” after light polishing or brushing. ·         Straps show significant wear.  May be usable but would be better replaced. ·         Bracelet show significant wear and may be resized but they are usable. ·         A condition "4" movement is running but does not keep good time.  Functions may or may not work properly.  Movement has not been serviced within the previous 5 years or it is unknown when the last service has been completed.  Service and repair needed. ·         Note:  We rarely buy watches with all components initially being a condition “4”.  We often see watches with condition "4" dings on a condition "2" or "3" components.  We also often see condition “4” case backs that are deeply scratched by someone who does not have the correct tools for opening.   Photos Available on the AJT Watch Company website.   Condition 5 (Poor): ·         In very bad condition ·         Only useful for parts   Note:  We very rarely buy condition “5” watches.   Combination Condition Grades (ie 2/3, 3/4) Often times there may be a combination grade listed.  For example: ·         2/3 for a bezel could be used to indicate that the bezel is in excellent condition with one anomaly (scratch, dent).  ·         2/4 for a bracelet could be used to indicate that the majority of the bracelet is in excellent condition but the clasp has deep scratches and nicks.  This is commonly seen upon initial inspection of a pre-owned watch that was regularly worn.   Note: There will usually be an explanation of the anomaly for a combination grade.   Watch Inspection ReportIn addition to adding our Watch Grading Scale we will be including our Inspection Report on all pre-owned TAG Heuer listings added after Jan 1, 2016.  The addition of this report will give our customers a higher level of confidence in what they are buying.  There will be a photo of this report included in the sales listing.  It will also be included with the watch when shipped so customers can keep it for their records.  If you see a watch listed on the site without a photo of this report in the listing it indicates that the watch was originally listed on the web site prior to Jan 1, 2016Go to the AJT Watch Company web site for a sample of the Inspection Report.  It describes the initial condition, work performed and the final condition of the watch.
