General Description: We offer an 18ct Gold, Half-Hunter, Pocket Watch, which is in superb condition and dates to the 1890s. The movement is signed Ex. by Gaskin, Dublin and is working very well and keeping good timeThe movement is an English 13 Jewel, 3/4 plate with Going Barrell and a pointed tooth escape wheel. The plate layout is that of a Fusee Lever and the time can be set, either with the pin near the crown or with a key on the back. The watch weighs a heavy 112grams. The 50mm (68mm incl. pendant ring) Case is stamped 18C, 0.755 and bears the Swiss Helvetia Hallmark for 18ct Gold on all 3 covers. The Pendant and the Rim are also stamped with the Helvetia Mark. The cuvette and back cover bear the serial number 261381 and the front bears 81 ( the last 2 digits).
The front cover opens to 90 degrees, when the pendant is pressed and all covers snap tightly shut.The 43mm, White Enamel Dial, has Roman Numerals and is in superb condition, with no apparent hairlines. It has blued steel hands and the hour hand is the classic Half-Hunter style with 2 pointers. - Ref : L669 This watch was purchased from the descendants of the original owner and is a Rare 18ct Gold Half-Hunter Pocket Watch, to add to your collection.The firm of Gaskin has a long history in Irish Watch & Clockmaking. John Gaskin I, was a Watch & Clockmaker in Dublin, who was the son of Mary Gaskin. He was apprenticed to Thomas Crampton in 1725 and worked at Essex St. until 1765.
John Gaskin II, was established in 1797 and the business carried on until 1898. He worked at 22 College Green and in 1858 was known as Gaskin & Co.
