Class:
Description Material: Solid Gold Brand: Waltham
This lovely watch made in 1897 is a sterling grade Waltham openface watch. It is registered in the pocket watch database. The model is 1883 the run Danoti was 8000 and the estimated production you was 1897. It is an 18 S size watch with seven jewels. The movement setting is pendant with the guilt when nickel finish it has a full plate and the hare spring is Breguet. It is not adjusted. It is not a real Road right watch. As I said it is listed with the pocket watch database and is noted to be keeping accurate time. The movement serial number is 8156219. The photos include schematics of the movement as well as a random movement in this model are used for illustration. Please see the photographs. This is an original 14 karat gold case with engine turned and hand engraved details. It is excellent shape – there are no dents or dings the crystal is clean and clear end it has been serviced and reported to keep accurate time. The pocket watch database list the value of this watch between $1680/1800 with the retail estimate being slightly higher. The watch also has a chain associated with it which is antique and style and I believe to be goldplated. It is an aftermarket addition. I do have a 14 karat gold watch chain from this era If a buyer is interested. The shipping price includes insurance and it will be shipped priority mail. The watch weighs 135 g without the Chain. I believe the price of the watch reflects the weight of the case to some extent because this is obviously a working man's watch. It's rare to see these in 14 karat solid gold particularly in light of the size and weight of an 18 S case. For example, purchasing the watch in a 30 year guaranteed gold filled case reduces the average cost to around $250 in today's market. I assume the relative cost would be the same at the turn-of-the-century. You would think rather than invest so much in the case someone would prefer a railroad grade watch or one more technically advanced. I guess it just goes to show that bling is bling in any century. In any event, it is reassuring to know that the value of the watch is supported by a gold standard. Please don't hesitate to message me with any questions. Christmas is coming the geese are getting fat will you please put a pocket watch in your ol'mans hat? • ....SOLID GOLD!!!!
