DESCRIPTION:
This is a rare gem you will probably never see on eBay. It is the Girard-Perregaux Constant Escapement in white gold with gorgeous black PVD movement. Girard Perregaux has developed a uniquely mesmerizing response to an age-old challenge experienced with traditional mechanical movements. It has a whopping 6 day power reserve. The escapement is the component that transfers the energy from the mainspring to the balance wheel, the regulating mechanism of the watch. A traditional lever escapement will mirror the amount of power it receives from the mainspring to the balance wheel. When the mainspring is fully wound a higher amount of energy is transferred to the escapement, which results in higher energy being transmitted to the balance wheel, which in turn will cause the watch to run a little faster. On the flip side, as the mainspring winds down a corresponding drop in power is being transmitted from the escapement lever to the balance wheel, which results in a lower amplitude & slowing-down of the watch. The movement on the back and front has such incredible depth, that it is pure pleasure looking at it and wearing it even more so. Girard Perregaux’s Constant Force Escapement features an escapement mechanism that transmits power to the balance wheel at a constant force regardless of the state of wind of the mainspring. The movement when wound looks even more cool than a tourbillon! It is like having 2 hearts beating on your wrist. Look at the beautiful gray sand blasted finish on the bottom of the dial! But the innovations here are what won them the highest achievement award only because of this watch. The Girard Perregaux "Constant Escapement L.M." won the “Aiguille d’Or” of the 2013 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. The escapement features a cage made of silicon with an ultra-thin blade at the center (only 14 microns thick, 6 times thinner than a strand of hair) that buckles up & down. The blade will only buckle when a very specific amount of pressure is applied to it. This blade is so cool in the fact that it changes colors as you move it into different lighting as you can see in my pictures. You will see it is sometimes black, sometimes blue, and sometimes purple! As the pressure builds from the unwinding of the mainspring the blade will buckle, with each buckle it creates an equal amount of force is transmitted to the balance wheel, thus propelling the movement forward. The entire watch case is made of white gold and the deployant buckle is a mix of white gold and titanium. This is added so the watch is not too heavy to wear. It still has quite a bit of heft to it but this buckle makes it lighter and more comfortable.
