Okay, let me explain. Most if not all of the vintage watches you see for sale here on eBay are being sold by professional dealers who have no emotional connection to the items. That is NOT the case for me. I know exactly where this beautiful watch came from, my Mom. I really don't know the exact date when Dad gave it to her; I do know it was an Anniversary present. It was probably in the late 1940’s; I don't remember a time when she didn't have it.
The watch was absolutely Mom’s pride and joy! She was a very petite lady with fairly small bones. The bracelet was actually too long for her but there was no way she was going to have it cut down to size to fit and lose some diamonds! See the photo with ruler to see the actual length. Mom has passed away and the watch has just been sitting in a jewelry box unused for years. I dearly love it, (fond memories) but it isn’t doing me any good just sitting around. It really hurts to sell it but on the other hand, I know someone else could be enjoying it. Have to confess, I'm getting a little emotional thinking back as I write this. Anyway, back to the subject in hand. When I looked at the watch closely, it was obvious that to bring it back to prime condition it would need some work. The face was faded and discolored like all the other vintage watches you see here on eBay, and the movement hadn’t been wound in years. I had the face/dial refinished to its original state. The actual movement was completely reworked by a Master Watchmaker and it keeps great time. You shouldn’t need service for years.
This vintage watch in not for just anyone. But if you are the type that likes standing out from the crowd and would like to make a statement that few people can match, then you should own it. This is truly a "one of a kind" find. My Mom was a special person and I am sure the new owner of her watch will be a special person as well! At this price you MIGHT be able to find a watch with more diamonds if your willing to settle for an inferior timepiece, but the odds of you finding another in the condition of Mom's watch are pretty much slim and none! If all you care about is the Diamond count, buy a Tennis Bracelet. On the other hand, if you want a watch in superior condition then this is the watch for you! APPRAISAL Hamilton Ladies mechanical wrist watch. Date of manufacture, late 1940's early 1950's. Platinum Case and Band. Watch is in superior condition due to extensive restoration. Rare for a watch of this type and age. The watches condition adds significantly to the overall value of this piece.
The Dial is in new condition having been completely restored. The movement is a Hamilton 17 Jewel Masterpiece, Hamilton's Finest and has been completely serviced. When tested, the movement kept accurate time.
Diamond Count; there is a total of 75 single cut small stones, 6 Baguettes of varying sizes and 2 nice approximately 15-17 point full cut stones near the case with a good degree of "fire". Total Diamond weight is estimated to be approximately +/- 1 Carat.
Market Value of a watch in this condition will range from $2,200 - $2,500.
