CUERVO Y SOBRINOS ROBUSTO CRONOMETA "COUNT DOWN" SWISS AUTOMATIC CHRONOGRAPH 2175.1A W/RARE CASE- 99.99% LNIB From the Cuervo Y Sobrinos Racing Collection Series, this Robusto Cronometa chronograph model features a very unique Dubois Dépraz designed central “count down” movement as well as a beautifully intricate mixed media case design typically only found in “haute hortlogerie” level timepieces. This watch easily offers one of the best value for money propositions in the $7,500-10,000 category. The afore mentioned Dubois Dépraz central countdown movement was specially developed to time auto racing. Where most chronographs place the seconds and minutes timing hands in smaller sub-dials, Cuervo Y Sobrinos moved these movements to the central dial to make monitoring elapsed time easier, with each hand color coded and a bi-directional bezel laid out in a 60 to 0 second format. Normally, this engineering feature alone would make this watch extremely competitive in its price range. But it is the case design and construction that might push the mechanical features to second billing. Unlike most cases, which feature single piece, single material construction, the Robusto case is modularly constructed in 4 parts, innovatively combining brushed titanium and polished stainless steel. This gives the watch both unique feature and aesthetic advantages. From a feature perspective, the combination of materials provides the watch excellent weight balance and strength. Visually and tactilely, the combination achieves a sense of depth and detail that is quite intricate, providing a beautiful contrast when light is reflected. The stylized fluted curves of the lugs accentuate this effect. Finally, the bezel, crown and pushers each have their own unique knurling pattern, which together with the brushed titanium, makes for an exquisite tactile experience. The dial of the watch is equally as stunning as the case. It features Cuervo y Sobrinos’ signature Latin design interpretation, seamlessly combining elegant and masculine elements that are instantly identifiable to those familiar with the brand. The “honeycomb” texture of the dial is particularly impressive, providing the type of visual detail that separates more expensive timepieces. Special Edition Cuervo y Sobrinos Humidor If you are new to Cuervo y Sobrinos, the “presentation watch box” that comes with their watches are fully functioning humidors. For 99% of these watches, the humidor provided is a simple single compartment lacquer box with one veneer, sized to hold 40-60 cigars. The humidor that came with this particular watch is a far more elaborate and rare model, featuring multiple veneers, a curved lid, holds 80-100 cigars and has its own cigar accessory drawer.  Have a look at the photos. It’s quite impressive. This model is normally reserved for limited-edition watch models from the Torpedo Caribeño line. These are timepieces at the highest end of the Cuervo y Sobrinos range. This is not usually the humidor that comes with this watch. Usually, it is the far simpler version. I can only assume this was a happy mistake made by the manufacturer. The retail price for a humidor like this one is around $500. For those new to humidors, here is a breakdown this humidor’s features: The Torpedo Caribeño watch line, the upper end of the line for which this humidor was made, pays tribute to Caribbean pirates of the 1600’s-1800’s. As such, this humidor is designed after the shape of treasure chests depicted in pirate folklore, with side handles, patterned inlay and a curved lid.Made of kiln dried Spanish cedar, with bird’s eye maple and maple trim veneer in high gloss piano finish (8 layers of lacquer). Spanish cedar is used on the highest end humidors due to its superior ability to regulate temperature and humidity, as well as for its fragrant scent. This all helps preserve cigar flavor and protects against tobacco beetles. Hidden gold plated quadrant piano hinges, gold plated handles, lock and keyInterior divider and cigar accessory drawer. Leather lined, removable watch shelf.Hygrometer and humidification system with removeable aerator traysDimensions: 6.5H x 10D x 14W Watch Details This watch is in pristine, 99.99% like new condition. The case, crystal and case back are in perfect, unblemished condition. Functions all work perfectly. Band is in perfect, unblemished condition with no scratches or creases. The band clasp is also in fantastic condition with only blemish being a few tiny micro scratches only visible under bright light. This is the only reason I didn’t give the watch a 100%. This watch was in my personal collection, purchased new in 2014 and only worn a couple of times. It is as new as it gets without being “new”. The humidor is also in outstanding 99.99% like new condition. No chips, dents or signs of wear. Hardware is perfect. Only blemish I can find are a couple very small, very faint dull spots to the varnish on the lid, again only visible under bright light. Overall, both the watch and humidor are in beautiful condition.     MODEL:  Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Cronometa 2175.1A MOVEMENT:  CYS 7160- Dubois Dépraz 2075 / ETA 2892-A2 - 13 1/4'''. 49 jewels. 40 hr. power reserve CASE: 4-part modular body- 316L stainless steel body and case back, titanium lateral sides and bezel.
