I have been staring at this watch for seven days, waiting for it to lose time, randomly stop running or refuse to chime when the repeater slide is activated. Instead, I have discovered that this aesthetically immaculate, solid 18k gold, full hunter case, non-engraved repeater pocket watch runs perfectly and keeps stellar time. The face, hands, and all internal mechanisms are immaculate as well. The repeater strikes when the slide is slid all the way down. It does not chime on its' own, nor do I believe it was ever intended to. My understanding of a repeater watch is that they were made this way so that the wearer did not have to open the case to know the approximate time and, instead, could pull the slide back and hear the chimes ring by the hour the watch was running in. For example, at 7:45, the watch will chime 7 times when the slide is activated. At 12:15, it will chime 12 times, etc. The serial number and matching case numbers of this watch is N14595. I believe this dates the watch to circa 1882. It was formerly owned by a collector of pocket watches named Mr. Royal C. Wells of Gloucester, Massachusetts. If you would like to see a video of the watch repeater chiming, please let me know and I'll send one via email. This pocket watch will be shipped via USPS Express Overnight shipping, insured at my expense, unless a different method is preferred. All packaging will be discussed with buyer if there is a specific method of packaging or materials you would like used to further protect your investment. Due to the delicate nature of any and all antique pocket watches, returns will not be accepted due to the chance for damage on the return of an improperly packaged watch, but I cannot imagine why any purchaser of this one of a kind, flawless beauty would ever imagine returning it. Thank you. |
