During the Group B Era, manufacturers were required to build 200 road going examples to homologate a car for racing. Naturally when it came time to make a limited edition of our Group B Automatic watch, we decided that 200 pieces was the only number that made sense. Just as the Group B cars had road and race versions, the Group B EVOLUZIONE is the more “evolved” version of the watch, with a CNC milled aerospace aluminum lug chassis replacing the stainless steel chassis on the standard Group B watch. This aluminum chassis adds further lightness to the watch, reducing weight by an additional 7 grams over the steel version. In contrast to the finely hand-finished steel version, this aluminum chassis is taken straight off the CNC machine with no hand finishing, and anodized. The part is then laser engraved with its serial number. The tool paths for the computer guided cutting head were meticulously engineered by Discommon for Autodromo to maximize the rugged beauty of each part. Tool marks form an intricate and intentional texture over the entire part for a look that is at once beautiful and honest to the process by which the part is made. The machining and anodizing is performed in California, with final assembly at our New York studio. The overall shape of the aluminum chassis also differs from the steel version, in that it is slightly larger in diameter, and features an integral crown guard. Also included with this limited edition piece are 4 nylon racing straps in the team colors of the 4 most prominent liveries of the Group B Era, neatly arrayed in the hand folded Aluminum collectors box. NOTES: EACH WATCH COMES WITH ALL 4 RACE LIVERY STRAPS INCLUDED. EVEN AEROSPACE GRADE ALUMINUM IS A SOFT METAL COMPARED TO STEEL.
