E Howard and Co 14k solid gold pocket watch - c. 1886 65g goldWhat a wonderful early pocket watch. Solid gold double hunter case. Serial number dates it to between 1883 and 1899. VII movement, not nickel plated.Case is wonderfully chased on the covers and molded on the sides. Engraved L J Doster...definitely someone of means, interesting if you can find out anything about him.Watch has been apart and gold content measured. Total watch weight is 141 grams. Gold case weight is 75 grams (no crystal). There's a little bit of steel insert, so estimated gold content is 65 grams. The case design on this watch really sets it apart as exceptional, in my opinion. Far better than generic engine turning. Would be an excellent and interesting addition to your collection. Please, no offers below or near scrap value, this is a wonderful time piece.
