EMPLOYEE WATCH - JOHN WENNSTROM - UNITED STATES WATCH CO, MARION, NJ -  1870 -  KW/KS This is a well preserved damaskeened nickel full plate movement with screwed down gold jewel settings.  The balance is in good condition and swings with very good motion.  Blues screw heads and steel bright work in good condition.  The 4 hinge Tiery Watch Watch Case Co case is sound, opens and closes appropriately.  Front cover, in particular, shows normal wear.  Case hinges do not over extend.  Original USWC hands undamaged.  Original USWC roman dial does have a virtually invisible hairline at 28 - 29 mins.  Janne Wennstrom, born 1852, immigrated from Sweden to New York in 1869.  He anglicized his name to John Wennstrom [United States Census] and was working at United States Watch Co, Marion in the same period as William B. Learned, plant superintenant for early the Frederic Atherton 19j runs.  It is entirely possible that John Wennstrom may have been among those, along with William B. Learned, dismissed by Frederick Giles.  The Jewelers Circular describes John Wennstrom having several patents connected with the machine boring of accurate holes in ruby jewels. The Otago Witness, as their 19 July 1893 edition notes John Wennstrom as the 'sole owner' of machine bored jewels.  The John Wennstrom was, according to NYC records, established in 1876.  This watch is very like the first Frederic Athertons of 1869  This is a very important watch in the history of Early American development.  Questions??? 519 472 8622  Free air to any postal address in United States or Canada
