47.6 mm across the outer case not including the box hinge ~ key set from the front / key wind from the rear the watch ticks along happily till the end of the chain though i have not checked it for timekeeping ~ the watch was cleaned about 10 years ago & has been put away since then ~ outer case is in very good condition with the button & lock 100% good ~ antique repair watch paper tucked inside from C W Atkins ~ watch & clock maker on church street in tullamore ~ which is a town in the midlands of ireland ~ inside of case rear only marked with the number 56 ~ inner case with 7 knuckles on the hinge is topped off by a period ribbed bow ~ excellent clear glass high domed crystal ~ beetle & poker hour & minute hands ~ classic english style dial with roman hour marker & arabic 5 minute marks at the outside of the chapter ~ small gold brads between the handsome numerals with 3 missing ~ center of dial is signed Grey with a cockle shell below the arbor ~ in keeping with the older verge watches the catch to swing the movement up protrudes from the 6 at the bottom of the dial ~ also in keeping with it;s age is the worm wheel setup for the mainspring ~ on "newer" verge movements this system was replaced with a click wheel under the dial ~ fire gilded movement appears clean & bright ~ signed T Worlige ~ London ~ #1856 ~ with a flower center on the hand pierced & engraved balance cock it has a fantastic what i will call a fish with open mouth at the neck ~ an angled pierced & engraved foot can be indicative of it's age as well ~ i love that it retains the original proud & blued screw to hold the balance cock in place ~ i would rate the condition of the movement as quite excellent ~ hall marks inside the inner case rear do not allow me to identify a date or maker ~ one less than common feature of the inner case is the sliding cover for the winding hole ~ a very practical addition to a case in my opinion but not often seen ~ so i present for your consideration a somewhat murky beginnings not far off from 300 years ago to what we have here today ~ a rather nice example of english work of the day ~ to be enjoyed for another 300 years! key cheerfully provided ~ please ask questions and resolve issues before you place your bid reserve? no reserve here! so if you like it you better place your bid now before it gets away! thanks for checking out my listing and if you are into watches please check out my other offerings & you might want to keep a half-an-eye on my upcoming listings as i am liquidating a long time watchmaker's estate-whilst i continue to span the globe for unique and exotic items to bring to your door!
