DESCRIPTION: ITEM VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz30mTIhmTU In Good Running Order!! Keeps approx 1-2 minutes over 24 hours and is in excellent original condition apart from some very very minor play to the back cover hinge, as seen in the pictures. This is an extremely rare and collectable Waltham Slide Button Chronograph. It is 1 of only 300 that were produced and who knows how many survived as they almost never come up for sale. They were produced to compete with the more common english center second stop/start button chronographs, which at first glance is what it looks like, but unlike the english versions where stopping the second hand stopped the watch from running the Waltham version allows the second hand to be stopped without stopping the watch (see video for demo). Waltham Watch Co, Approx 1850-1957, was called "American Watch Co" from 1859-1885 which is the date this piece falls into. It has a solid sterling silver open face case with full english hallmarks for "Birmingham 1879" and has the makers mark "AB" for Alfred Bedford who was the manager of the Waltham Watch Co's London office. The case has a milled band containing a slide button at 3 o'clock, and an engine turned back with vacant cartouche. The dial is white enamel porcelain with roman numerals bordered by a minute and timing division track, and has a sunken center signed "American Watch Co, Chronograph". It has all blue hands and a clean glass crystal to protect the dial. The movement is an American key wind, 7 jewel, gilt 3/4 plate movement with a club tooth lever escapement and compensated balance with overcoil hairspring. The movement is signed "Am Watch Co, Waltham Mass" and is numbered "1242629" which dates it to 1880. Comes with a key!! Diameter: 51mm Total Weight: 121g
