Here is a beautiful, antique, solid gold, swiss made pocket watch from the early 1900's.  C. H. Meylan movement, and a great story. This watch was presented by the famous A. Paul Keith to one of his company's managers, Mr. Dougherty, in 1913.  Mr. Dougherty managed the Tower Theater, a Philly landmark to this day, and a key part of the Keith Circuit of entertainment ventures.Mr. Keith was the son of Benjamin Franklin Keith, 1846-1914, who began with a circus, including working with P.T. Barnum.  Later Keith became famous with the vaudeville circuits, signing major acts, and opening theaters from Boston to Philladelphia and beyond.  B.F. Keith retired in 1912 at 67 and took his new, 26 year old wife to Florida.  A.P. took over the business, but passed away himself in 1918.The Keith Circuit Company was the "K" in "RKO Pictures".  The B. F. Keith Memorial Theater in Boston (1928) is now "The Boston Opera House".  The Tower Theater still fills with musicians and acts every week. The inscription reads" Mr, Dougherty in appreciation"  A.P. Keith.  December 22, 1913.There is a plastic crystal that I believe is a replacement. The face shows that it was purchased from Bailey, Banks & Biddle, the Tiffany's of Philadelphia.  The face has some marks around the edges but the face and numbers are clear. The mechanism is again stamped or engraved Bailey, Banks & Biddle, Philadelphia.  And also C.H. Meylan, Switzerland. It has 7 ADJUSTMENTS, and 19 JEWELS.  Serial number 252231 is stamped on all surfaces, as is 18K.  The inner back has a beautiful sea shell motif polished into it.Total weight is 2.1 oz./ 59 grams. It winds and runs, for a few seconds, then stops.  I have no idea of why, but must sell as-is.
