This AMERICAN WATCH CO. GOLD POCKET WATCH works. The case is 18K GOLD (see photos). The manufacture was Waltham in Waltham, Massachusetts. It is a Hunter  style case. The grade is RIVERSIDE. The model is 1874. The estimated production date is between April 1879 - July 1879. The size is 14s. It has 13 jewels. The face has Roman Numerals. It is a sidewinder. The watch movement and watch case weighs 128 grams. As can be seen in the photos of the face of the watch, the winding stem has the gold worn off in a patch that is about 4mm square.This piece has been in the family for 4 generations. It was in  use daily for the first 2 generations, then passed on to the next. It has been in a jewelry chest since about 1970. It had the time setting lever replaced and put into running order in 1993 and then put back in the jewelry case. At that time, the watch repair jeweler estimated that the 18K gold case had about 60 gram of gold. The watch has been set and wound and has kept good time for the last few weeks prior to this listing.
