rare collectible american pocket watch ~ 19 jewels ~ stem wind / stem set ~ in good running order & kept close time for me over a 24 hour period ~ housed in it's original star watch case company 14k yellow gold filled case with spring loaded rear cover ~ clear glass crystal over the dial & clear glass crystal in the rear cuvette over the movement ~ signed DUDLEY silver sun burst patterned dial with gold applied arabic numerals & very nice deep blued steel open cathedral hands ~ stunning 19 jewel nickle movement with gilded masonic symbols as bridges for the wheel train (a slipper, plumb, trowel, level, square, compasses, the letter "G" and a bible) the silver bible applied onto the winding wheel bridge ~ serial number 2592 ~ rates 1 star in the book for rarity ~ press the crown & case rear flips open ~ a plain polished rear with both bezels being nicely embellished ~ william wallace dudley was born in 1850 & apprenticed as a young teenager to a chronometer maker in st. john ~ around 1880 he moved to waltham ma & worked at the waltham watch company ~ he went on to take a position at the illinois watch company & then to the trenton watch company where he was promoted eventually to the job of superintendent ~ then onto the south bend watch company as superintendent & then on to hamilton where he became foreman of the modelling department & eventually promoted to superintendent ~ he would return to hamilton as a finisher after the failure of his company in 1925 till he retired in 1931 (81 years old at that point!) ~ a scarce but popular antique piece of american mechanical art in very sharp condition for the enthusiast to enjoy! please ask questions and resolve issues before you place your bid reserve? no reserve here! so if you like it you better place your bid now before it gets away! thanks for checking out my listing and if you are into watches please check out my other offerings & you might want to keep a half-an-eye on my upcoming listings as i am liquidating a long time watchmaker's estate-whilst i continue to span the globe for unique and exotic items to bring to your door!
