1786 Josephson Silver Repousse Verge Fusee (11525)This pocket watch is an excellent repousse example from the late-18th century. The silver repousse case is one of the best examples I have personally come across, being nicely polished throughout and with no visible damage from the exterior. It opens and closes tightly and the detailing on the case is still precise and not worn down (you can see the eyes of the people, for example). The inner case is in excellent shape as well with a bullseye crystal. The hallmarks in the case date it to 1786 (a Josephson watch from the Victoria & Albert Museum is dated 1788, so this falls within the time period the watchmaker would have worked). Both hands are present and the watch has an enamel dial. The dial is chipped by the 10 o'clock and has a faint hairline running between the middle and the 6 - very hard to see though. Small crack by the 2 but it's covered by the bezel. The movement itself is in excellent condition with a verge fusee escapement. The entire watch has been cleaned and oiled. The watch winds and runs but runs very fast in most positions. When the watch is face down, it seems to skip a lot of beats and winds down pretty quickly but is still running (see video to hear what I mean). In general, the watch runs best when held upright with the bow pointing up - relatively normal beat in this position. A pair of winding and setting keys will be included.I encourage you to watch the video below - any small imperfections are easier to see in the video than in the photos.
