This beautiful diamond and sapphire ladies wristwatch comes to us from the estate of a schoolteacher who lived in Brooklyn, New York. Made of 18K gold and platinum it has a 17 jewel movement and the style is art deco with a total of 2 oval diamonds, 32 round diamonds and 4 blue sapphires framing the watch face. The inscription on the back reads: LOVING APPRECIATION SEPT. 1928 FRIENDS AT P.S. 142. The black suede strap was added circa 1977 and it has a name stamped on the inside which may be SERENA. The watch came to us in a jeweler's box which may be the original and it bears the name and address of KELLY & KILMARTIN 15 Maiden Lane New York. This is not just a beautiful wristwatch (still running) but a beautiful piece of jewelry with a past. We find the inscription very touching because it speaks of a time when schoolteachers were admired and respected. Someone very special loved and took good care of this treasure.
