A lovely 18ct solid gold half hunter cased pocket watch with a quality J.W. Benson 'The Ludgate' jewelled lever movement, dating to 1917/18, in good condition and good working order, keeping good time. Matching case and movement number.The 18ct solid gold half hunter case is in very good condition, hinges tight and covers snap shut. The case is hallmarked for 18ct solid gold and date marked for London 1917/18, initials 'J.W.B.Ld' (for J.W. Benson Ltd), the case is numbered '3784' which matches the movement number. The front cover opens a little way when the crown is pressed but the hinge is a little tight so doesn't spring open as it should. The only minor damage to the case is a small dint to the case edge either side of the stem (see close up photo of the stem/crown). The case measures 50mm overall diameter ignoring the stem/bow and the watch weighs 110g. The enamel dial is signed 'J.W. Benson, London' and is in excellent condition, no chips or hairlines. The hands and large crystal are in good condition, the smaller crystal to the front cover has a couple of minor scratches. The quality 3/4 plate jewelled lever movement is in excellent condition and good working order, keeping good time. The movement is signed 'THE LUDGATE, J.W. Benson, PATENT NO.4658, BEST LONDON MAKE, TO H.M. THE QUEEN, LUDGATE HILL LONDON' and numbered 'G3784'. The movement is crown wind and pin set which are in good working order.Lovely example, collectors piece.Please Note - 'UK' posting only, no overseas posting.
