This rarely seen vintage 1960's Paul Raynard two register divers chronograph is a special watch, purchased from the original owner. The refreshing matte bluish gray "SWISS" signed dial with white subdials is in near mint condition and flows beautifully. The original lume on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a faint, short-lived glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a golden buttermilk hue, with the patina of the hour and minute hands being a shade lighter than the dial and sweep seconds hand. In my humble opinion this subtle contrast looks beautiful. The bluish gray bezel with lume filled inverted triangle, which smoothly rotates bidirectionally, has faded gracefully and looks amazing. The heavy duty all stainless steel case is built like a tank and is in wonderful condition, showing minor wear and free of any significant dents or dings. The slight discoloration seen on the crystal retaining ring can be easily removed during a service by a skilled watchmaker using a wire brush. The outer edge of the case back is engraved "STAINLESS STEEL TESTED TO 20 ATM 624001 WATERPROOF SWISS MADE INCABLOC" with a diver engraved in the center. The inside of the case back is engraved "BAYLOR" followed by "WATCH Co" and "SWISS." The integrity of the crystal is intact but should be replaced to bring out the true beauty of the dial given the scratches and the dust/debris that has gotten between the crystal and crystal ring and settled on the underbelly of the crystal. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss "DUVAL JEWELRY Co" stamped Landeron 149 manual wind movement looks great, keeps accurate time and all chronograph functions works as they should, starting, stopping and resetting precisely back to 0. The pushers have a pleasant catch and release feel, with the top pusher starting and stopping the sweep seconds hand and the bottom pusher resetting the sweep seconds and minute subdial (right subdial) back to 0. After recently winding the sharply threaded, screwdown crown 25 full revolutions the movement had a healthy power reserve of approximately 35 hours. Please note that after unscrewing the crown the crown feels a bit loose to the touch but it is securely attached. While I prefer crowns to be tightly secured, others prefer crowns to feel more loose. I appreciate that this is a personal preference but worth mentioning nonetheless. To set the time the crown needs to be unscrewed and then gently pulled straight out to move the hands. While the crown and stem function as they should, if desired a skilled watchmaker can adjust with ease the tightness of the crown. Although this watch currently keeps near perfect time and all chronograph functions work as they should, considering that this watch is more than 40 years old with its last service having been in 1994 (there are a few watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back but according to the original owner the last service was in 1994), a complete overhaul is suggested. This watch measures approximately 42 mm excluding the crown, approximately 45 mm including the crown and approximately 21 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 11.5 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 14 mm. As mentioned above, although this watch is keeping good time and all chronograph functions work as they should, this is a vintage watch that hasn't been serviced in decades. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. A full overhaul is recommended to keep this watch running strong. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. Please thoroughly read this entire listing and kindly ask any and all questions you may have prior to buying as this sale is final and no refunds of any kind will be given. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. Expedited and insured shipping along with signature confirmation will be provided. Thanks for looking!
