DESCRIPTION: Excellent Working Condition!! Keeps excellent time and is in excellent condition. This watch was made by Rotherham & Sons for the NZ Retailer Petersens Ltd. Petersens Ltd are still active in Christchurch and were founded over 150 years ago. Rotherham & Sons was founded in 1747 as 'vale' by William Vale. Richard Kevitt Rotherham became a partner in 1790 and the firm was renamed to 'Vale & Rotherham'. In 1842 Richards son John became a partner in the firm was renamed to Richard Kevitt Rotherham & Sons and finally to Rotherhams & Sons from 1850 onwards. From 1843-1867 they used a factory system to attempt to make 6000 movements per year. From 1867-1880 they used the Wycherley system for manufacturing watches and in 1880 they successfully adopted the machine manufacturing methods until the company stopped producing watches around 1935. CASE: 18ct, full english hallmarks for "London 1911", makers mark "R&S" for Rotherman & Sons, open face, glass crystal, engraved monogram decoration to the rear, engraved presentation "To GJ From AG 20.11.13" (probably 1913 rather than 2013) inside the case behind the movement. DIAL: White enamel porcelain, roman numerals, seconds dial at 6 o'clock, blue spade hands, and signed "Petersen's Limited Christchurch NZ, Made in England". MOVEMENT: Crown wind/pin set, 19 jewels, gilt, three-quarter plate, english ratchet tooth lever escapement, compensation balance with breguets overcoil hairspring, also signed "Petersen's Limited Christchurch NZ, Made in England", Rotherham & Sons trademark stamped under the dial and the movement is numbered "181652".
