This special no reserve auction is for a very special ultra rare 123 year old huge men's size 18s private label double signed Carter Bros. Co. Portland, Me. model 6 grade 65-S 14K solid yellow gold double sunk open face Railroad grade pocket watch dated 1894. The watch is stem wind and lever set. It features the most spectacular Illinois model 6 grade 65-S two-tone grid in circle movement with only 400 produced in 1894 only! It was called the "KING OF THE ROAD, apparently retailed by WILSON BROTHERS - BOSTON, MASS. But in this case retailed and double signed Carter Bros. Co. of Portland, Maine. The watch weighs a staggering 129.9 grams with a case diameter of 55mm. A huge heavy men's size 18s in absolute mint condition, as if it were made yesterday! It has a smooth silky wind and runs strong, keeping excellent time! This exceedingly rare watch was produced in the year 1894 only with only 400 ever made! Imagine how very few are left in this perfectly preserved condition! Little if any. This could be the last of one or two left, and probably is!
With what appears to be it's original scratch-free thick beveled edge glass crystal in mint condition. All covers are tight and right. All covers including the double beaded engine turned decorated 14K gold bordered front cover snap tightly closed and open to exactly 90 degrees on their original damage-free hinges. The watch has an extra-fancy floral engraved thick 14K gold rear cover with a floral bordered monogram cartouche at the bottom over an engine turned ground that has never held a monogram, a real plus for collectors! The 1/4" thick curved case edge features an intricate hand engraved scroll decoration with no wear noticed! The entire 123 year old watch shows no sign of wear anywhere except on the oversized 14K gold bow where the pocket watch chain hung. An ultra rare and very spectacular Victorian Railroad grade pocket watch for the discerning collector and a must-have for the rare high end collection! The original pristine porcelain double sunk dial is signed "Carter Bros. Company Portland, Me." in fine delicate black hand lettering. The luxurious double sunk fine porcelain dial is perfect; snow white with no hairlines or age staining. The original blue steel Breguet hands are excellent. It has black Roman numerals with red 5 minute time makers at the outer edge along with a sunken seconds sweep at the bottom marked out in 10 second intervals. The double sunk porcelain dial is signed at the interior as seen in the photographs. The inside of the thick 14K gold rear cover is stamped "WARRANTED 14K U. S. ASSAY" followed by "B.W.C.CO" inside a dogbone shield and serial number "803571". Inside the thick polished 14K solid gold cuvee is stamped with the matching serial number "803571".
