You are bidding on another great piece from my personal collectionLange Söhne Glashütte Pocket Watch in 18Kt Yellow Gold, Original BoxMint condition. The pocket watch is made in Germany.
Ferdinand A. Lange was more than a pioneering watchmaker. Not only did he bring education, work, new prospects and, ultimately, prosperity to the Ore Mountains; he took it upon himself to improve the welfare of the people.
In 1848 Ferdinand A. Lange accepted the voluntary position of mayor in Glashütte, remaining in office for 18 years. During that time, Glashütte evolved into a prosperous, lively town, largely thanks to the watchmaking industry that he had initiated. He was subsequently elected to the parliament of Saxony. Glashütte made him a “citizen of honour” and established the Lange Foundation for retired watchmakers. But when the King of Saxony wanted to ennoble him in recognition of his exceptional services, Lange’s response was both modest and firm: “A worthy man ennobles himself.” Ferdinand A. Lange was only 60 when he died on 3 December 1875, shortly before the 30th anniversary of his manufactory.Today lange & Söhne Glashütte stands for modern, original and ingenious, high quality time pieces that are the natural expression of German's excellent in engineering and manufacturing.
