HERE IS ONE OF SEVERAL ANTIQUE POCKET WATCHES, PART OF A COLLECTION OF ANTIQUE AND VINTAGE POCKET AND WRISTWATCHES I INHERITED.THE POCKET WATCHES HAVE AFFORDED ME LITTLE TO GO ON REGARDING THEIR ORIGIN, MOVEMENT DETAILS or other PERTINENT INFORMATION.
THEY BELONGED IN MY HUSBAND'S FAMILY AND PROBABLY WERE HIS GRANDFATHERS' WATCHES.
AS HIS DAD LIVED UNTIL 98 AND PASSED A FEW YEARS AGO, I WOULD BET THIS POCKET WATCH IS A TRUE ANTIQUE.IT DOES NOT WORK. I BELIEVE IT IS HAND WOUND.
THE WATCH IS CLEARLY 18K WITH A HEAD OF HELVETIA HALLMARKED ON THE VARIOUS CASES.
THERE IS THE NUMBER 5790 on INSIDE OF BOTH CASES which might help a super watch sleuth.
ON THE INSIDE OF THE OUTSIDE CASE I CAN BARELY MAKE OUT THE INITIALS P_S SOMETHING LIKE THAT.I DO NOT SEE ANY WRITING ON THE MOVEMENT.
THE WATCH MEASURES 47 mm across and the total weigh of the watch, case and movement is 58 grams.
There is a small dent on outside of the case.SO THERE YOU HAVE IT.
Gold is slowly climbing and perhaps you can figure out an approximate gram weight of the gold alone. I will not venture to explore this avenue for evaluation of the watches worth. But, hopefully, if you are an interested buyer, you might have more expertise in estimating this detail.
The watch is elegant and detailed and might be interesting to a collector.
So the price reflects the intrinsic value of an antique, not just the meltdown value of the gold.Please, no returns.
