Circa 1890sChronometer Sn. 5816Box Number ( Inner ): R.W.D 1928Previous Box Number: J.H.D 1955 See image of Loose badge.See associated NOTE relating to the operation of the Chronometer between 1955 and 1968.Marine Ship Chronometer made by JOSEPH SEWILL. 8 Days full size Marine Chronometer.Gimbal Mounted.Includes what is probably the Chronometer Original Key. ( Key not numbered ). Comes in the original Dark Mahogany Wood box ( We believe to be mahogany ) with ORIGINAL period Key. Includes Original perfectly fitting Bridge Box for mounting on the Ship's Bridge.Movement: Typical Chronometer Spring Detent Escapement with Helical Hairspring. Fusee Drive.Working Condition: Yes. We have timed this Chronometer over a 24 hour period and it shows a gain of just under 6 seconds. NOT Recently Timed, Serviced or Regulated.YOU MUST ASSUME you will need to service this chronometer if you wish it to maintain Chronometer timing standards. This particular Chronometer has not been used since the 1960s and has been only used as display since. Measurements of the inner Box: 21cm x 21cm ( Top ) and height is 22.5cmThe diameter of the BELL HOUSING is 15.5cm.
