This “New Deal” wrist watch was made in 1935 by Ingersoll.  The wrist watch box measures 2.5" x 4-5/8" x 1" deep.  The box is marked "New Deal Wrist Watch Made in U.S.A." on the top and has a picture of F.D.R. & the Capitol building on it.  The box has some light wear.  Please see my photos for the condition. The watch is wound up tight and runs and stops.  I had to give it a gentle shake to get it going.  I'm sure it will need to be cleaned and oiled to keep accurate time and run reliably.  The crystal is acrylic and it's brand new.The dial of the watch and the band also have matching images of F.D.R. and the Capitol building.  The wrist watch was offered with a metal band (as shown) or a leather band with F.D.R. & Capitol building inserts.  The original retail on the wrist watch was $2.98.  For comparison, the retail price at the same time for the Mickey Mouse wrist watch was only $2.69.  This could be one of the reasons why the “New Deal” watches are so difficult to find today.  Besides, who would children rather have a watch of, F.D.R. or Mickey Mouse? The main reason for the rarity of this watch is due to the fact that it was only available from Sears in 1935 and no other retail stores.  This holds true for most, if not all, of the rarest character time pieces including Tom Mix, Betty Boop & many others.  They were all “store exclusives” weather it be Ward, Sears, Eaton’s, etc.The New Deal was a series of domestic programs enacted in the United States between 1933 and 1936, and a few that came later. They included both laws passed by Congress as well as presidential executive orders during the first term (1933–37) of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.  The programs were in response to the Great Depression, and focused on what historians call the "3 Rs": Relief, Recovery, and Reform.  That is Relief for the unemployed and poor; Recovery of the economy to normal levels; and Reform of the financial system to prevent a repeat depression.
