CORNELL WATCH COMPANY - SAN FRANCISCO - 19j - STEM WIND /LEVER SET - Serial 25183 - This is a well preserved gilded full plate movement with screwed down jewel settings. The movement is running with a good motion. The 4 oz coin silver hunter case does show wear but the entire is quite presentable. Hinges are not worn; the covers do not over extend. Opening and closing is appropriate. Original Cornell - San Francisco dial and hands free of defect. San Francisco Cornells are relatively scarce. Cornell production at Chicago was acceptable but management took it in their collective heads to move operations to San Franciso [Berkeley, actually] and train Chinese workers. It was anticipated that Chinese labour would cost would be significantly cheaper but no one really anticipated the 'impossibilty' of the then mixed race work place. The Chinese were not yet afforded the status of 'being human' and Cornell Watch [San Francisco] Co soon fell apart...and a group of entrepreneurs promptly bought the remnants and formed California Watch Co, which also failed. What remained of California Watch Co become Western Watch Co which moved back to Chicago. This is a scarce watch. Questions??? 519 426 8622 $20 post to any postal address in United States or Canada.
