Rare F.Bywater & Co Liverpool Antique 1840s 2 Day Marine Chronometer in original Box.With early TASMANIAN Colonial association. PLEASE Note very old photocopy of Tasmanian Observatory Certificate. NOTE also the signature of one of Australia's most famous Watch and Clock Makers. C.ABBOTT dated April 24. 1873....... Subsidiary Seconds. Movement: Usual FUSEE Earnshaw Escapement. Circa 1840s-50sChronometer Sn.341.This Marine Ship Chronometer made by F.Bywater. 2 Days of Medium to Small size .Gimbal Mounted.Includes Chronometer winding Key. ( Key not numbered ). Comes in the original Dark Flame Mahogany Wood box ( We believe to be mahogany ) with ORIGINAL period Key. ..Working Condition: Yes. We have timed this Chronometer over a 24 hour period and it shows a gain of just under 7 seconds. NOT Recently Timed, Serviced or Regulated.YOU MUST ASSUME you will need to service this chronometer if you wish it to maintain Chronometer timing standards. This particular Chronometer has not been used in a very long time. And has been part of a New Zealand Collection. We believe it was originally purchased by the previous owner in Tasmania or Melbourne in the 1980s.. Measurements of the inner Box: 15cm x 16cm ( Top ) and height is 17.5cmThe diameter of the BELL HOUSING is 10.2cm. So this is a Medium sized Chronometer.Diameter of the Dial: 9.5cm.Please feel free to ask Questions. We are happy to provide additional images if requested.
