( production of these began c1924 ). This type of Gruen Pentagon was available to order only and was never on general sale. They were essentially custom built but all had one thing in common .... A SOLID GOLD MOVEMENT with 21 jewels ( TWO Diamonds )and this particular one is number 131 as shown in the photographs. Customers could specify exactly how the watches looked and were supplied .....this one was supplied in a SOLID 18K White Gold case and had an enamel signature placed on the back as shown. This type of case finish is extremely rare. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT ORIGINAL. The 18K Solid White Gold pentagon case is signed Gruen with a 1922 patent date ( the date Gruen Pentagon cases were patented ). The case band and edges of the front and rear covers are finely chased and engraved. The front bezel clips on as it should and the rear cover is hinged and firm and closes as it should. The rear cover centre is polished with some minor surface marks and bears a VERY RARE enamel signature, presumably as ordered by or for the origin owner as shown in one of the pictures ( D .R. Wilson .... R.Wilson for sure but the first initial is highly stylised and I am unsure exactly what it is ). The enamel signature is in excellent original condition. The bow is hinged and firm. The case overall is in excellent original condition and is original to the movement. The SOLID GOLD MOVEMENT is number 131 and marked as having 21 jewels ( Two Diamonds ). Fully signed and engraved Gruen 50th Anniversary Watch. Screwed in jewel settings, polished movement screws, screw micrometer regulator. Excellent condition, perfect working order. Wound and set by the crown.( reliability is not warrantied or guaranteed as this is a mechanical item approaching 100 years old. )The two tone dial is matte silvered around the hour chapter with a brushed centre signed Gruen 50th Anniversary. The applied polished gold Arabic numerals have taken on a slightly bronzed hue. The gold hands are all original. The dial is lightly aged but in 100% totally original condition. The crystal is bevelled edge, possibly original and in excellent condition.Do not confuse this watch with common Gruen Pentagons .... this is a genuine and original 50th Anniversary Gruen Pentagon Pocket Watch. They rarely come onto the market. This is your chance to own one. 100% original and perfect working order. I am a longstanding collector of fine watches, but nowadays concentrate my time on my Gundogs and only occasionally offer watches for sale. I have owned this particular watch for some years and it is in the same original condition as when I bought it. Any questions, please ask......PLEASE NOTE THESE IMPORTANT PAYMENT, SHIPPING and INSURANCE TERMS :-Payment is expected within 14 days of auction close unless we have agreed to extend this period. Failure to pay within this time will result in the item being relisted and a non paying bidder alert being filed.
