Great 22liniges and very rare pocket watch with double duplex escapement and ¼ repeater of significant watchmaking master urban Jürgensen dating from around 1830. Urban Jürgensen (* August 5. 1776 in Copenhagen; † May 14. 1830 ) was an important Danish watch and chronometer maker and watchmaker of the king of Denmark. . A similar movement with the number 710 is depicted and described in detail in the book: John MR Knudsen "Urban Jürgensen & Sonner", Copenhagen 2003 , page 123 . This watch with solid, coin edge case made of silver with Neuchâtel city brand hallmark inside the lid, case maker CJ No. 34996. the case is in very nice condition. Dust protection cover made of brass with unilateral gilding and silvering. The glass with center ground joint is in very nice condition. Enameled and signed dial with Roman hour. Three blued hands. Dial under the 6 little haarrissig. Exquisite and fire-gilt work most outstanding quality. Double Duplex inhibition. Screwed capstone. Blued screws. Smooth brass balance with flat steel spring. Fusee. Triggering the repeater on counterpart. Two hammers on two gongs. Blocking the repeater using slider 1 to 2 The very clean plant is working properly. Diameter of the watch 60mm, weight 176 g. Urban Jürgensen, son of Hofuhrmachers Jürgen Jürgensen, born 1776 in Copenhagen. With 20 years in Switzerland, Neuchâtel and Geneva. In 1797 Le Locle, where he worked with Jacques-Frédéric Houriet. From Le Locle, he traveled to Paris. In Paris the houses of the Abraham-Louis Breguet and Ferdinand Berthoud remained open as a result of recommendations it. Later, he went to London to John Arnold, to perfect his knowledge of the construction of marine chronometers. He returned to Copenhagen in 1801, and founded a company for the production of marine chronometers. Urban Jürgensen was the first watchmaker member of Royal Danish Academy of Sciences. The Danish King Friedrich VI appointed him the Royal Court clockmakers and the exclusive right to supply the Admiralty with chronometers was awarded with the title of Royal Lake watchmaker. After his return to Denmark he began at the request of the Danish Government with making this so infinitely important for marine instruments. Urban Jürgensen in numerous innovations introduced, such as a special detent escapement with 2 escapementsrädern (double wheel detent escapement). He was the first who made cylinder wheels made of steel. Around 700 pocket watches, 45 marine chronometers and 6 precision pendulum clock in its workshops were built between 1811 and 1830. The company continued to maintain good business relations in Switzerland and bought there parts Ebauche works and watch case, Urban's eldest son, Juel, moved to Switzerland and founded a production there under the family name that kept Jürgensen brothers cooperation, remained both departments a family ,
