Very rare GEORGE II Gilt Pair Case Verge Pocket Watch by the renowned Robert Markham of London. Matching cases. Robert Markham was the partner and son-in-law of James Markham who started the family business in 1697. Robert took over the family business in 1730. This is a very low serial number movement (451) suggesting it was made near the beginning of his ownership of the business. Hence we date it to between 1830 and 1840. Tompion Regulator. Rubbed gilt cases with some damage and a repair to the outer case. A highly desirable early pair case verge by an important maker.
